An Indiana man was arrested after allegedly shooting his estranged wife multiple times. At the time of the shooting, the woman was pregnant. Unfortunately, her fetus didn’t survive the shooting.
On January 19, 2025, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a shooting. Once inside the home, officers found a pregnant woman who had been shot, they said in a statement shared on Facebook. Thankfully, the woman is expected to survive her injuries, but it is undoubtedly a difficult time for her.
Police caught the alleged shooter, and he confessed to the crime. He reportedly told police that the whole shooting was premeditated — he had been planning it for days. Charges are still pending.

According to court papers obtained by WISH-TV, a witness arrived at the home of the woman, who was identified as Kayla McBride, to do laundry. When she got there, she found 36-year-old Jeremy McBride “in the bathroom of the residence, standing next to an adult female who was lying on the ground bleeding.” The witness claimed “no one else was in the residence.”
The man fled the scene before police officers arrived. Court documents state that Jeremy McBride is the estranged husband of Kayla McBride.
Kayla McBride was shot five times and rushed to the hospital for treatment. When she arrived, doctors discovered that her 20-week-old fetus had died. According to reports, Kayla McBride remains hospitalized, but is expected to survive.
“Our hearts just pour out for this victim and the trauma she’s going through, but we’re so grateful to the community,” IMPD officer Tommy Thompson said in a statement shared by FOX59.
Nearly a half hour after the shooting, the man was allegedly “driving to the police department to turn himself in for shooting his wife,” a woman called and told police. Using license plate technology, police were able to locate the man’s Jeep, and pull him over.

“During the course of his arrest, McBride, in a spontaneous utterance, stated that the ‘gun’ was in the vehicle. IMPD officers observed a black handgun in the front passenger seat of the vehicle,” Detective Ahmad wrote in the court papers.
Ahmad’s statement continued in the probable cause affidavit. “During the course of the interview, McBride informed detectives multiple times that he had gone to (the residence) with the intention to kill K. McBride, to kill the fetus K. McBride was carrying, and then kill himself,” Ahmad said.

The man told investigators he had come up with the idea “several days prior.” It was reportedly at that time he bought ammunition and purchased a gun from a pawn shop. According to the court papers, he seemed to open up when talking to police.
“McBride admitted to thinking of his plans over the course of several days, and stated that he shot his wife multiple times while she was turned away from him in the residence,” the affidavit says.
“She was 5 months pregnant with her miracle baby, after several failed pregnancies in the past, and she has lost her baby due to this outrageous crime committed against her,” family members told WRTV. “She is alive, and not paralyzed, thank God, but she has already undergone several surgeries including the removal of her left ovary, left fallopian tube, part of her small intestine, and part of her colon, and some repairs have been made to her uterus.”
After the shooting, Jeremy McBride was arrested with a preliminary charge of attempted murder. Reports say that it will be up to the Marion County prosecutor’s office to file formal charges.
