Many children go through a phase where they believe there is something lurking under their bed. This often happens when it’s time for them to go to sleep. But what if there really is something? A babysitter in Kansas was shocked when she reportedly found a man, Martin Villalobos Jr., hiding under a child’s bed.
Eventually, police caught the man. He now faces multiple charges, including violating an order of protection.
On March 24, 2025, around 10:30 p.m., deputies from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call, per a Facebook post. Upon their arrival at the home, they were met by the babysitter who had called the authorities.
“When putting the children to bed, one child complained there was a ‘monster’ under their bed. When the victim attempted to show the child there was nothing under the bed, she came face-to-face with a male suspect who was hiding there,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
An altercation reportedly took place between the babysitter and the man. Both the babysitter and one of the children were knocked over in the struggle. The suspect fled the scene before authorities showed up.
According to the statement, the babysitter identified the man under the bed as Martin Villalobos Jr. He used to live at the home, the sheriff’s office said. But there is now a protection from abuse order against him. This means he’s not allowed on the property.
That evening, deputies searched the area around the home, looking for Villalobos. They were unable to locate him at the time.
On the morning of March 25, deputies returned to the area to continue looking for Villalobos. He was spotted again near the house. Once he was spotted, he allegedly made an attempt to evade police on foot. After a short pursuit, police caught and arrested him, and 27-year-old Villalobos was taken to the Barton County Jail.
He was booked on requested charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order. He is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
According to a report from KOAM, Villalobos was out on bond for a case in January. That case also included a violation of protection from abuse order.
