The loved ones of the Maynard family from Texas may finally be getting answers about what may have happened to the family. The family of four went missing in Alaska while on a vacation. Their boat was recently recovered from an Alaskan bay. Human remains were found on the boat, and authorities believe the remains could be the family. Nothing has been confirmed, but it’s the first clue. For now, those who were close to the family are holding out hope that there will be more answers soon.
In August 2024, the US Coast Guard began searching for the four members of the Maynard family in the Kachemak Bay near Homer, the Alaska Department of Safety said in a statement. After an unsuccessful search, 42-year-old David Maynard, 37-year-old Mary Maynard, and their sons, 11-year-old Colton and 8-year-old Brantley, were declared missing.

Support Vessels of Alaska, Vision Subsea, and Benthic Geoscience Inc. reached out to the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in April 2025 to offer use of their services to help locate the Maynard family and their boat. In May 2025, the family’s boat was found in 180 feet of water. Using their technology, they were able to determine the boat belonged to the family. Additionally, human remains were found on board.
On May 27 and 28, volunteers from the Alaska Dive Search, Rescue, and Recovery Team, with the assistance of the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, dove down to the boat. “Divers recovered three sets of remains from the sunken vessel and transported them to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification and autopsy,” the release said. Loved ones close to the family were notified.
“The Maynards left a huge imprint on many people,” family friend Tanashea Aviles said on a GoFundMe page. The fundraiser was set up to support mom Mary Maynard’s parents. “It is indescribable the void that will be left behind, but I know if we come together as a family and a community they would know how much they meant to everyone.”
