Husband Charged With Murder After Mom of 4 Is Found Dead in Dumpster After Not Showing Up to Work

Four boys in New Jersey are mourning the death of their mother. When the woman failed to show up for work after a day off, her boss was concerned. After repeatedly calling and reaching out, the boss decided to go to the police and file a missing persons report.

Days of searching led police to make a devastating discovery. The mother was found dead in a Pennsylvania dumpster. Shortly after finding the body, the woman’s husband of many years was arrested for her murder.

At first, nothing was out of the ordinary.

Lucrecia Jadan Sumba, had Wednesday, January 8, 2025, off from work. According to a GoFundMe started by her family, she took her two youngest children, 18-year-old Danny and 5-year-old Eidan, to school “as usual.” No one knew that would be the last time they would see her. Everything had changed by Thursday.

Sumba worked at Princess Nails in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was set to return to work on Thursday, but she never showed. A GoFundMe states that wasn’t typical behavior for the mother, causing her boss and coworkers to become concerned. She would always call to let them know if she wasn’t coming. Allegedly, her coworkers called and texted “many times” before they “finally went to her house looking for her.”

When they got to the house, apparently her husband, Rolando Corte, told them he didn’t know where she was. The message also states that he “seemed very disinterested of her whereabouts.” This prompted her boss, Abigail, to go to the police.

The police got involved fairly quickly.

On Friday, January 10, after consulting with more of Sumba’s family and friends, Abigail went back to the police station, putting pressure on them to do something. First, they took the statements of those who lived with her. And then, they went to her house to conduct a search.

“Police officers notified the family that the house was a crime scene, and they were not allowed to stay there until investigations were over,” the GoFundMe states. Her family shared that everyone was “very confused,” and didn’t understand what was happening. Sumba’s children went to stay with various family members while police searched their home, trying to make sense of what could have happened to their mother.

Her husband was charged with her murder.

Police found the body of the mother in a dumpster in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania, on January 11, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center said in a statement People published. Sumba died of sharp force injuries, an autopsy found. As a result, her manner of death was ruled a homicide.

On Tuesday, January 14, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Rolando Corte, Sumba’s husband of 23 years, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for her death, reported WFMZ.

The mother will be remembered as someone loved by everyone.

According to her family, Sumba immigrated to the United States in 2021. When she first came to the country, she worked as a babysitter and house cleaner before getting her job at the nail salon. She used most of her money to bring her sons from Ecuador to live with her. Since she arrived in the US, she learned to drive, and was working on getting her GED. She was described as a “hardworking lovely and caring mother,” who was “always bringing a smile to all around her.”

“Lucrecia Elizabeth has always made a positive impact of those around her bringing support, knowledge, happiness and worked always with enthusiasm. She also brought kindness to her workplace and family gatherings,” her family said.

The GoFundMe will pay for funeral costs that include sending her body back to Ecuador for burial.
