A mother is being hailed as a hero after she was killed in a suspected terrorist shooting. The new mother shielded her infant from gunfire as she got off a light rail train. She made the sacrifice many mothers would make, putting herself in the line of harm to ensure her baby would survive.
The sad reality is that her young son will grow up without a mother, which is always tragic. But her son will always know his mother gave her life to save him.

The shooting was described as a terrorist attack.
Multiple outlets reported that Inbar Segev-Vigder a 33-year-old mother and owner of a Pilates studio, was one of seven killed in a suspected terror attack outside Tel Aviv, Israel. According to Israeli media reports, Segev-Vigder died shielding her 9-month-old son Ari.
She is being called a hero for her actions.
The Israeli government posted on X (formerly Twitter) on October 2, identifying Segev-Vigder as one of the victims. “She saved his life,” the tweet read. “There are no words. Only heartbreak.” Her son is safe and unharmed.
A witness spoke out about the mother's sacrifice.
Newsweek reported on the Israeli media coverage of the shooting.
“[Segev-Vigder] went to get off the train and was shot,” one female witness told media outlet Ynet. “We heard the baby screaming. We pulled him out of the carrier. One of the policemen took me and the baby in a van to Wolfson [Hospital].”

Her husband has been reunited with their son.
Segev-Vigder’s husband, Ya’ari Vigder, told broadcaster KAN that he rode his bicycle to the scene when he was unable to reach his wife by phone.
“I looked for Inbar in the whole neighborhood and realized that I had to go to the hospital because I didn’t get a response from anywhere,” he said. It was at the hospital that he found his son with doctors.
He will always make sure his son knows that his mother died protecting him.
“Our miracle is that our son came out of it unharmed, really without a scratch. He was covered with blood a bit, but otherwise unhurt,” Vigder said, reported Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
“Ari was in a carrier that covered Inbar’s entire upper body during the attack, he was not injured at all,” he explained. “For the rest of his life — may he feel the same love he received from Inbar.”
