The baby's cause of death has not been determined.
Per the Torrance Police Department, the baby died after being bitten by a dog, but the Los Angeles County Coroner is still investigating the baby’s death. This means that the cause of death has not been determined at this time.
“Detectives responded to both the scene and the hospital to conduct a follow-up investigation,” the police department said in a news release, adding that “City of Torrance Animal Control also responded and took possession of the dog.”
Animal control officials have not commented on the baby's death.
Because the baby’s death is still under investigation, animal control officials have not commented on it, NBC 4 reported. However, the news outlet reported that in addition to taking the dog that bit the baby, Animal Control also removed the other dogs living in the family’s home. Prior to the baby’s tragic death, police had not received any calls related to the family’s pets, per ABC 7.

A family friend described the family that lost their baby as 'good people.'
Faye Tohidi, a friend of the family that lost their baby, told ABC 7 that “they’re good people” who “just didn’t pay attention to what they should’ve paid attention to, which is really a tragedy.”
Police have not disclosed the breed of the dog that killed the baby, but Tohidi said the family had a mastiff, a pit bull mix, and another mixed breed dog living in their home.
The family friend said having big dogs around a newborn baby seemed like an issue.
Although she called them “good people,” Tohidi told ABC 7 that having big dogs around the newborn baby seemed problematic. She described herself as “a dog person,” but noted that, “the matter is that you don’t bring your infant to an atmosphere that has so many big dogs around. And it was wrong to begin with.”
She also has sympathy for the baby's mom.
Of course, Tohidi also called the situation “really sad.” She told NBC 4 that she was shocked by the news and knew that the mother of the baby “must be devastated” by her loss. “I can’t even imagine how the mother feels right now,” she told the news outlet.
