Teen Boy Accused of Shooting His Mom & Sister After ‘Bad Reaction’ to a ‘Bunch’ of Edibles

A Texas teenager allegedly went on a shooting spree after ingesting a large quantity of marijuana edibles. The unnamed 15-year-old boy reportedly called Houston police on February 22, 2025, warning that he planned to kill himself or someone else. Dispatchers sent officers to his home to help.

Houston Police Department Lieutenant JP Horelica said a dispatcher called the home after the 15-year-old’s initial call and spoke to his mother. She reportedly had no idea her son had made the call or knew of any danger. Per KHOU, the Houston Fire Department arrived first and found the 15-year-old outside the home with a gun. Police entered the home and found the teenager’s mother and his 17-year-old sister with multiple gunshot wounds. They were both in “very critical” condition, according to Horelica. Another 16-year-old girl was in the home but did not have any injuries.

“[The officers] found out that the 15-year-old suspect had just eaten a bunch of edibles and I guess had a bad reaction to them, at which point he ended up using that gun and shooting his mother multiple times in the back and shooting one of his sisters multiple times,” police said, according to KHOU.

Police arrested the teen, and the victims remain in critical condition at an area hospital.

Neighbor Margaret Smith told KHOU the attack shocked her. “Since it’s that close, it kind of sends a wave to your body,” she said.

Smith added her gratitude to police and firefighters for helping de-escalate the situation before it became even more serious.

“It could have happened to anybody, he could have walked outside and did anything to somebody,” she said. “I’m glad it wasn’t me, I feel for the family, the mom and the sister, but it’s some lessons you have to learn, now he’s got to learn the hard way. And that’s sad.”
