It's been a rousing few weeks for America, hasn't it? Between the speeches from the RNC and the DNC, we're all caught up in election fever. No matter what side of the aisle you're on, that's a good thing! It shows we care about our future! And what better sign of the future do we have than our babies!
I couldn't help watching all these rousing speeches from some pretty incredible American women and wondering: are moms and dads out there watching and thinking, "I could name my baby girl after her"? If you weren't, you should have been! These women are a sign of how far our nation has come from the day when ladies couldn't even vote, forget actually running for office! And there's a host of fabulous baby girl names we can think of from both the Democrats and the Republicans:
Since the DNC just wrapped up last night, let's start there, shall we?
Michelle — The First Lady's first name is a classic: feminine but strong too.
Claudia — Retired Lieutenant General Claudia Kennedy's name isn't used very often, but it's a nice way to show off a family's German roots.
Sandra — It has served speaker Sandra Fluke well … and there is a certain former Supreme Court Justice who has this name too!
Lilly — It's coming back into fashion, and Lilly Ledbetter may have a thing or two to do with that.
Cecile — The President of Planned Parenthood Action Fund who spoke this week gives us a return to the French version of Cecilia.
Maya — The president's sister's name could be spelled Maia too.
Jill — I may be a bit partial here considering my daughter's name is Jillian, but the wife of the vice president has one a girl can grow old with!
Elizabeth — Let's face it, Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren's name is never going out of style.
Nydia — Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez has a name that's unusual but beautiful.
Diana — Another pretty name comes from Congresswoman Diana DeGette of Colorado.
And now for the RNC:
Ann — Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's wife's name is often used as a middle name, but she could help bring it back to the front!
Mary — You don't meet many of these anymore, although it's done no disservice to Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, that's for sure! Maybe it's time to bring this classic back?
Rae Lynn — For parents who like two-part names, go for naming a girl after Rae Lynne Chornenky, president of the National Federation of Republican Women.
Mia — The mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah has a moniker perfect for pairing with lengthy last names.
Jane — Mitt Romney's former workforce secretary from his days as Massachusetts' governor has another one of those throwback names I'd love to see come back!
Nikki — Is it any surprise that a governor would have a name that means victory? That's the kind of meaning that could be auspicious for a little girl … like South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley!
Susana — The governor of New Mexico gives us a nice twist on Suzanne. I could see a little girl being called Ana OR Suze.
Kerry — The woman who served as Mitt Romney's lieutenant governor has a name that plays right into the current trend in turning to Ireland for babies!
Pam — The attorney general of Florida, Pam Bondi, gives us another strong female name. The longer, Pamela, has a sweet connotation too — it means "honeyed" in Greek.
Jackie — To name a girl for Congressional candidate Jackie Walorski, you can go for short or something longer like Jacqueline.
