Interior design blogger and mother of four, Katie Woods, has more than 71,000 followers on her beautifully curated Instagram. Her stunning artwork, decorative throw pillows, and tidy floors receive thousands of likes every day. However, the UK-based mom wants her followers to know that her social media is not a clear representation of what her life is really like — and there are plenty of people out there who can relate!
Katie took to Instagram and her blog to share images of what life is really like when you're a working mom and wife.
"How many of you out there think I live in a tidy house?" Katie wrote on Instagram. "It may seem that way from these little squares but it’s so important to share the reality."
Not only are all of Katie's kids under the age of 9, but she is also a part-time dentist, and she and her husband have been woking on restoring their home for about two years.
Kated decided to post multiple pictures that show how her "carefully curated grid" compares to her actual daily life.
"Let’s talk about mess," she shared on Instagram. "I’m keen to be truthful about how my home really looks, this carefully curated grid is not real life. It’s the equivalent of seeing me with freshly blow dried hair, professionally applied make up and a good pair of hold it all in pants! On here, it’s the best it will ever look."
In a blog post, she explained how there is nothing wrong with pretty Instagram pictures, but they should be taken with a grain of salt.
"Let me be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with these shots, they make beautiful images, just know that they aren’t real," she wrote.
"They are little works of art and likely bear zero resemblance to the scene ten minutes before or after the shot was taken," Katie shared.
So, next time you start to compare yourself to someone else on Instagram, just remember that Instagram is NOT reality.
Social media is a highlight reel. And although there is nothing wrong with only posting our cutest pictures, we also need to remember that no mom has a clean house 24/7, no woman has perfect hair and makeup at all hours of the day, and not one single person lives a flawless life.
