Baby Name Expert on TikTok Says These Are the Vintage Names Coming Back in Style

Our culture has a history of recycling, well … just about any fashion. In the early 2000s, bell bottoms came back into style after being all the rage in the '70s, now they're back again in 2022. Makeup looks from the '90s are currently on trend. The entertainment landscape is full of reboots and remakes. And according to one baby name expert, names once popular in the early 1900s are ready to make a resurgence.

For parents who want to name a child something quirky with a bit of a nod to history and a cool vintage vibe, she took to TikTok to discuss which vintage baby names are on the rise.

In one video, Morgan talks about names from 1912 that are currently rising in popularity. She shared that the name Althea hasn’t been ranked in the most popular since 1972. She believes its current popularity is attributed to the fact that millennials grew up listening to The Grateful Dead music with their parents.

The name Audie, she says, hasn’t ranked since 1922. She considers it a cool girl name like Maude, Sloane, or Blair.

She's also noticed that girls’ names tend to follow the trend for boys’ names. So because August is rising in popularity, so is Augustine. She notes that the name Golden will come back into favor but not for the next five to 10 years.

Morgan shared that through research, she found that Golden used to be more popular for boys, but she thinks it'll become a "cool girl name."

In her personal work, the letter that is coming up over and over again with her clients is 'V.' She said names likes Vella, Verlie, and Verona, were all popular in the 1920s and 30s. She thinks Vella and Verlie are a bit wispy, so of the three, Morgan prefers Verona, which she says is a modern alternative to Veronica.

People are already seeing Morgan's predictions in real life.

If you’re wondering how a naming consultant could accurately predict trends, you need look no further than the comments on Morgan's videos to see the proof.

“My friend just named her beautiful daughter Althea!” a commenter wrote. Another said they considered Audie for their child.

Someone else shared that they recently named their daughter Winona, another name Morgan mentioned in her video. Are you a fan of these vintage names? Would you consider giving one of them to your child?
