Planning a childâs birthday party is an ordeal. There are seemingly thousands of details to consider. These include location, coordinating nap schedules, and goodie bags. And of course, we can’t forget the cake.
For many of those early birthdays, the cake has to be not only tasty but also artfully and skillfully decorated. Or you can do like our parents did and order a sheet cake from the grocery store. But as one TikTok mom learned, that too comes with a risk.

A Florida mom left specific instructions for the bakery.
Charlene Zatroch, of Miami, Florida, ordered a cake from a local grocery store for her daughter Odetteâs third birthday party. When she placed the order, she left clear instructions.
âI specifically told them âthird, like 3-R-Dâ because I’ve heard of mistakes being made before,” Zatroch told Newsweek. But despite her efforts, there was still an issue with the cake.

It read, 'Happy 3th Birthday.'
Zatroch was busy planning other aspects of the event, so she sent her husband to pick up the cake from the bakery. He got it but didnât check the cake before he brought it home. If he had, he might have noticed there was a mistake: The cake read, âHappy 3th Birthday, Odette.â
Zatroch shared the error on social media, zooming in on the mistake. Although the bakery did the opposite of what she asked, the mom wasnât upset. Â “I wasn’t angry or upset, I actually found it to be hilarious and a story we’ll tell her when she’s older,” she said.
The adults at the party thought the error was hilarious.
At just 3, Odette didnât notice the faux pas. “My daughter can read but thankfully hasn’t learned that part of grammar,” Zatroch said.
The older party guests, however, got a kick out of the whole thing. “A few people took pics and thought it was hilarious and shared their stories of it happening to them or someone they knew,” she shared.
Other people on TIkTok shared their cake error stories.
When Zatroch posted about the cake online, the comments on the clip were filled with all types of interesting anecdotes.
âIâm a cake decorator and Iâve done that đđ,â one person wrote. Another commenter offered advice. âIâm a Pastry Chef l would have fixed it for you. Next time always give your Order in writing as well as verbally.â
Zatroch and her friends were so tickled by the cake that theyâre thinking of making this an annual tradition for her daughterâs birthday. “We actually thought it would be funny if all her future cakes were like this,” she shared.
