Sometimes, pranks can be fun and harmless. Kids like to have a good time, and sometimes it can be cute and silly. Students like to find ways to get one over on their teachers; it gives them a different way to connect. But sometimes, those things can go too far. A student at Como-Pickton CISD in Texas used a prank for something that was not silly or fun. Instead, they used a prank to harass a teacher.
The good thing is, the school district took swift action against the student. The disciplinary action wasn’t just school based because local authorities were involved as well. Although some may perceive it as extreme, school officials stands firm in their decision.
In a Facebook post on May 3, 2025, Como-Pickton CISD detailed the incident that happened. Officials didn’t specify which one of their schools the student attends, nor did they give an details about the student.
“Late last night, someone pulled a horrible prank on a teacher and called her using a spoof number,” the post reads. “They used threatening language in their conversation with her regarding raising their grade without obviously saying who they actually were and shooting if it didn’t happen.”
Immediately, the district was in touch with the police. Even though officials “believe it to be a terrible prank by some student,” transparency was important to school officials. It is abundantly clear that “we will not tolerate pranks of this nature or any joking threats towards staff or other students,” the post on Facebook continues.
“We will pursue every legal option available against such behavior including maximum school discipline and / or law enforcement involvement or other maximum legal actions at our discretion,” the post notes.
In the statement, officials emphasized the importance of talking with kids about what appropriate behavior is. Officials did make it clear that they didn’t think there was any actual “danger” to the teacher or the school. The school district continued to work with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. In the meantime, school officials say they are upping the amount of security at the school to be cautious.
“As incredible as our little school is, kids are kids, and real world problems affect us as well,” the post reads.
The following morning, a follow-up statement was posted, sharing that authorities identified the student who pulled the prank. Law enforcement was involved, and the post implied a possible arrest was made. No charges were announced.
