An Arizona couple was living the dream. The kids were in bed, mom and dad were getting some quality time with games, a movie, and even a plan to get some pizza. As date nights go, one thing happily led to another. For Jacyi Underwood and her husband Matt, however, the post-date night glow didn't last long as they soon heard the tiny voice of their 6-year-old daughter. Matt went to check on the little girl and returned to their bedroom with some very awkward news.
Jacyi, who posts under the name @part.time.milf, has more than 183,000 followers on TikTok. So she did what TikTokers do and started filming as her husband explained that their daughter was "crying 'cause she heard you screaming, and she wanted to make sure you were OK."
Oh no. The couple agreed that Jacyi should go comfort the girl, so she brought the camera with her to record the conversation in which she explained that she was fine and that because their door was closed they just hadn't heard her calling out.
Although Jacyi didn't show the girl's face and has asked media outlets to not post her daughter's name, the video has raised some important questions about what parents should and shouldn't share on social media, especially where their kids are concerned.
The video has now gone viral.
With almost 40 million views and nearly 40,000 comments, this video has generated lots of conversation online. Although some people found it relatable, including one commenter who shared that their own child had "once came in the room as quiet as a ninja, walked around to the other side of the bed and said, 'Daddy, get off of mommy,'" others pointed out that a child hearing their parents engaging in sexual activity can be an upsetting experience.
For Jayci's daughter, she was genuinely upset because she was worried her mother might be hurt and "wanted to know whatâs wrong. But no one was answering me.," she says with a sob.
This raises questions about kids as content.
Even though the video gave some people a good laugh (and caused traumatic flashbacks for some people who had to relive their own memories of hearing their parents have sex!) there are others who are uncomfortable with the fact that the couple shared a video that is likely to be embarrassing to their child someday.
Jayci, who has since posted a video expressing a desire for people to talk about something else other than her viral video, explained her view about this subject in an interview with the Today show. "Do I think that kids should be used as content? Absolutely not. And do I think that you should pick up your phone and record your child in a distressed moment? Absolutely not." She chose to do just that, however, because "I knew it would be so relatable and funny to adults."
Critics say that this whole situation wasn't respectful to the couple's child.
Jacyi explained to the Today show that she "felt terrible" about what happened at the time because her daughter is "the most sensitive, sweet angel child. If mom or dad starts crying, sheâll cry, too. I hate that she thought I was in physical pain."
That may totally be true, but as one Twitter user pointed out, this all seems like part of the trend of "parents nowadays recording everything for some clicks and likes … like this is embarrassing."
The video left one important question unanswered.
Whether it's OK to have noisy sex while the kids are home or to post videos with the possibility of causing future embarrassment for children who can't consent to filming are still matters of debate for a lot of TikTok users and commenters. But everyone is united in asking one important question: Did the girl get to have some pizza?
That's because the video ends with the girl, now calmer, also revealing that she heard her parents ordering pizza. We can't help but think she was feeling a little hopeful a slice was in her future too.
No word yet on if mom and dad shared more than just the noise of them getting frisky!
