I Got Flamed Online by Other Moms for Saying All I Want Is a ‘Healthy’ Baby

If you are a parent of multiple children of the same sex and announce that you are expecting again, prepare for everyone to have something to say about it. If you are a mom of boys, there will undoubtedly be the camp that hopes you "get a girl this time." And for the girl moms, people will say things like, "This one has to be a boy." Even though these comments are often innocent, they aren't always appreciated.

Kimberly Lecuyer, a fitness influencer and mom of three girls, recently announced on social media that she is expecting her fourth baby. To quell the questions, she posted a quick video on Instagram sharing that she doesn't care if her baby is a boy or girl; she just wants it to be healthy. Her caption caused quite a conversation, and not everyone appreciated her sentiment.

The busy mom lives her life online.

Lecuyer is a mom of three daughters and a fit pregnancy coach. She has 194,000 followers on Instagram and uses her platform to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Because she shares her life online, people evidently feel they know her and freely comment on her lifestyle.

Lecuyer shared she is expecting a fourth baby in March 2024, and comments immediately started to roll in.

"Dying to know after 3 girls if your gonna be a girl mom all the way or if a baby boy is joining the clan!" someone wrote.

Gender disappointment is real, and Lecuyer gets it.

Lecuyer shared her video on August 17, and shared that she doesn't care if the baby is a boy or girl.

"Girl mom of 3 ‍♀️ Do I want a boy? Absolutely! Would so be mad if I had a 4th girl? Not at all. Healthy Baby is the goal I've heard a lot of people talk about gender disappointment and I know the feeling… there seems to be so much pressure to have a boy (or maybe in your case, a girl) either way can we just start celebrating the new life about to come into the world?!!" the caption reads.

Lecuyer's seemingly innocent post got under some people's skin.

TikTok comedian Kevon Stage, aka @kevonstagetiktok, posted a reaction to the video and dished on some of the comments. Lecuyer actually ended up turning off comments on her Instagram post, but Stage grabbed screenshots.

"Mom of an unhealthy kid here to say that those babies are equally valuable and worthy of love," one commenter wrote, to which Lecuyer responded, "so much love."

Stage pointed out that Lecuyer never said that unhealthy children weren't worthy of love or that she wouldn't love an unhealthy child. She just said that she hoped her baby was healthy.

Another person commented, "Whatever 'healthy' means? If it's not 'healthy,' then your prayers won't be answered? How is ableism different from being sex-selective?"

Stage defended Lecuyer and pointed out that it's OK for someone to pray that their baby is healthy.

"There is nothing you can say on the internet that somebody can't make negative. And there is also nothing you can say on the internet that somebody can then put words in your mouth and say something you did not say," Stage explained.

Millions watched Stage's take on the situation.

His TikTok currently has 1.8 million views, with many agreeing with Stage.

"People are toooooo much….I pray for a healthy baby every day of my pregnancy , " someone wrote.

"I'm a mom w/ a disabled kid and I pray every baby born is healthy! If they're not, no worries! We can work on it and go from there with all love ," one mom explained.

The idea isn't new to everyone.

"Someone in my pregnancy group said being excited about a healthy baby is disrespectful to those who's babies aren't ," someone wrote.

The internet is an angry place that causes much pain for people. One mom-to-be explained she has to distance herself, "And Since getting pregnant 5 months ago I deleted IG cold turkey. I couldn't do it anymore everyone is so angry."

Other people didn't get the naysayers' logic.

Do people pray for unhealthy babies? Some people wondered.

"I literally had Someone tell me when I was pregnant 'I won't wish for a healthy baby bc my child wasn't healthy' ," one person wrote.

The argument reminded some of other twisted logic.

"i always question: these pple with the "unhealthy" babies, whn thy were pregnant, did they pray for a healthy baby??? just asking?" one comment reads.

"This is like someone who's engaged saying, 'I pray the marriage is happy and everlasting' and someone saying 'I got divorced so no,'" another person wrote.
