Mom Kicks Mentally Ill 9-Year-Old Out of the House (And She’s Not Sorry)

Parenting is not for the weak. Kids will challenge you in ways you never imagined, and if that kid has special needs, it’s even more of a mind-blowing experience. Sometimes we end up facing a situation we would otherwise never have to navigate and then figure out the exact right thing to do. That’s where mom Megan Morris found herself three years ago when she had to make the difficult decision to remove her 9-year-old from her home.

In a now-viral TikTok, Morris detailed everything that up to the removal and asked parents how they’d handle it.

She included harrowing accounts of violence her daughter would inflict on her siblings, cousins, the dog, and even the mom herself.

“She would attack her siblings unprovoked,” she recalled. “One time, she got in trouble and she flipped her 3-month-old brother out of his swing [and onto] the floor…She threw a candle at the back of her brother’s head, and he had to get stitches. She hit one of her sisters in the eye with a baseball bat.”

Disciplining her made it worse, so the mom turned to institutionalization to keep her and her other kids out of harm’s way.

Commenters actually were on the mom’s side confirming that she did what was necessary and best for all.

“This is exactly why institutions still exist,” wrote one person. “Good for you for protecting your other children. I have 3 children, one of them has autism and ODD. I’ve always told myself the first time he hurts someone seriously is when he would no longer be at home.”

Others shared their similar stories in an effort to relate to the mom’s tough situation.

“My parents had to do the same thing with my brother but he was 17,” divulged one commenter. “I had a very traumatic childhood because of him. The day he left there was a sense of peace. He scared me. We were always on high alert with him.”

Now, Morris is trying to raise funds to get her girl some help and understand her better. The “desperate” mom set up a GoFundMe account with a goal of $6,000.

“After one of her rages, she often collapses in my arms, sobbing and begging for help,” the mom explained on the donation page. “She tells me she doesn’t understand why she acts this way – and I believe her. She’s not a bad kid. She’s a hurting kid. That’s why we’re turning to the Amen Clinics, where they do in-depth SPECT brain scans that look at how the brain functions – something no test or treatment has done for her so far. These scans could finally give us real answers and a real path forward.”

We hope this momma gets the answers she needs so her family can be wholly reunited again.
