Start your online shopping, because the Owlet sale for Mother’s Day is one for the books! And while we’re talking about the Owlet, I have a confession: When the Owlet Dream Sock first hit the market around 2016, as a labor and delivery nurse at the time, I was hesitant about the device.
I knew how finicky oxygen monitors on babies could be, even in the hospital setting, and I doubted the product’s ability to provide any real value for parents. For years, I didn’t recommend the Owlet to parents, but in 2023, the Owlet was approved for FDA clearance against the standards for medical-grade pulse oximeters (oxygen monitors).
Thanks to the proven clinical evidence and testing, I’m happy to say that I now stand corrected against my initial hesitation about the Owlet Sock.
The Owlet has proven that it provides a useful and effective product for parents and babies, and I have firsthand experience of how helpful the device can be. That is why I can say the Owlet sale is 100% nurse-approved – here’s why.
Live Readings

My sister, who is also a nurse, bought the Owlet Dream Sock for my niece, who was born with cystic fibrosis. Because of her diagnosis and spending time in the NICU, my sister was understandably extra nervous about anything happening to her while she slept.
She used the Owlet from day one and actually still uses it to this day. (My niece just turned 1.) My sister swears the sock has brought her peace of mind that no price tag can match.
“I truly don’t think I would have slept a day in my life if I didn’t have it,” my sister says. “I still check her breathing multiple times throughout the night, but it gives me the peace of mind to let me relax a little bit. I check the readings frequently, especially when she is sick. To me, it has been worth every penny to give me that little extra security, especially with her diagnosis.”
Owlet Dream Sock

If you’re not familiar with the Owlet Sock, the way it works is simple: It’s a medical-grade oxygen and pulse monitor built into a wearable sock you can put on your baby to monitor a little one who is sleeping.
The monitor provides a live feed of your baby’s oxygen rate and heart rate in the app. It also immediately sends an emergency alert to your phone and to the freestanding monitor if any of the measurements drop below normal. (The monitor is not a camera, but it will vibrate loudly and emit red alarm sounds in the event that abnormalities are detected.)
And just in case there’s any doubt or you’re not sure what a “normal” heart or oxygen rating looks like, the app also tells you directly if the readings are normal or prompts you if something is abnormal to check on your baby.
As I mentioned, my sister is a nurse who uses the Owlet with her baby, and according to her, the measurements on the device are very accurate.
“Other moms with cystic fibrosis kids have compared the readings at the hospital with the pulse ox, and they were the same on the Owlet, so it’s fairly accurate,” she says. “Obviously there can still be some inaccuracy when she’s moving around a lot, or we didn’t put it on correctly.”

The peace of mind and live updates about your baby’s health are the real benefit of the monitor in my sister’s mind, but the Owlet also provides helpful sleep analysis so you can see how well your baby is sleeping and get insight to help with better sleep. For instance, the Owlet tells you:
- How long your baby was in deep sleep
- How often your baby woke up
- What sleep cycles the baby moved through
- Total sleep duration
Lastly, the app provides a “comfort” reading of your baby, which is individualized and primarily measures the temperature of the sock. Although it’s not a direct measurement of room temperature, you can use the comfort level to assess if your baby might be too warm or too cold.
