Social media is both a blessing and a curse. It keeps people connected in ways that weren’t possible even just a few years ago. Now, we have instant access to the world and constant bombardment of information. The information that we see on social media often affects the way we think about things, hence the title “social media influencer.” But is all that influence a good thing or is it a breeding ground for trouble?
A new social media trend came from a teenage girl’s rant about her mother, and it’s caused quite a debate online. The now-deleted TikTok from a girl named Jaycie, who posted as @user9356145314915, showed the teen crying in the bathroom because her mother yelled at her to put away the pink totes. The video went viral almost instantly, prompting a slew of “pink tote mom” videos. Some suggested Jaycie get help escaping her abusive parents and others told her to get a grip.

The interaction clearly upset Jaycie.
The teen deleted the original video, but several people stitched it. We see her crying because her mom apparently yelled at her for making a mess.
Jayce said her mom yelled, “You wanna have a f—ing spa day? Go to sleep, I need help.”
Jaycie went to help her mom, but she gave her vague instructions she didn’t understand. “I need you to put the pink things in my room,” her mom told her. Her dad apparently joined the interaction and yelled at Jaycie to listen to her mom. The whole thing made her very upset.
Was Jaycie’s mom in the wrong?
The comment section went wild.
Some certainly thought so. According to Fox 5, the comment section on Jaycie’s video was flooded with people who told her to escape her abusive parents. It got so bad that the teenager changed her profile bio to clarify that her parents are not abusive. Days later, the entire profile disappeared completely.
Lots of people gave their hot take on the idea of a 'pink tote mom.'
Jessica McCabe, who posts on TikTok as @That1crazy72 and has 965,000 followers, thinks the whole story got blown totally out of proportion. In a response to TikTok, she said there isn’t a person in the world who hasn’t lost their cool at some point. She said, “We need to start giving parents a little bit of grace.”
A follower agreed, commenting, “OMG, thank you! I’m exhausted by the constant villainization of parents who behave as parents and teach kids responsibility and accountability.”
As did this person who wrote, “I think no matter what we do as moms, someone will always, always say we are messing up and doing it wrong. Women are never given any grace at all.”

Other people empathized with Jaycie.
Content creator @danyella422_official posted that she swore she would never have pink tote mom moments with her children, yet she feels as though she’s part of a “generational curse.” People in her comment section empathized.
One wrote, “I’m sorry, baby girl! Y’all dealt with me and others. I’m so very sorry.”
Another commenter agreed, writing, “I have learned that me apologizing for my behavior and voicing that I was wrong to my daughter helps a lot. she is 3 and has started to call me out and it puts me in check real quick.”
We’re not sure how this all played out with Jaycie and her mom, but hopefully, they sat down and had a loving and respectful conversation.
