One of the best ways parents can set their kids up for adulthood is to invest in their future. That looks different for every parent based on their means, of course. Creating generational wealth for your kids could mean making financial investments, or maybe property investments, or perhaps entrepreneurial investments.
One mom on TikTok has sparked a conversation about generational wealth after she revealed her 12-year-old daughter’s apartment in a video that has now gone viral. While it might seem strange for such a young child to have her own place, many people praised the mom for thinking about the tween’s future. It does certainly make you think about how you’re planning for your own kids and their futures.

The family turned a tragedy into a positive.
Mom Audrey, who is known on TikTok as Organized Chaos, shared a video of herself cleaning her 12-year-old daughter’s apartment. Yes, her tween has her own apartment within Audrey’s home.
As she goes through the video while cleaning, Audrey explains that she is interested in creating generational wealth for her children.
“We had a house fire, and it was really disheartening because we had a really low mortgage with a really good interest rate. It was like 2½, 2.9, I don’t know, it was less than 3%,” the mom explained.
@organizedchaos4 For everyone in yesterday’s video saying “if she can’t keep it clean she doesn’t deserve it” let’s apply that logic to you, as well. If you’ve ever had a semi-messy home, you don’t deserve it. 😉 See the problem with that logic? We all allow our homes to get messy once in a while. No shame in it. Welcome help if it’s offered. ❤️ We’re all about grace and generational wealth over here. 👏🏻 #cleaning #clean #cleaningmotivation #kids #cleanwithme #organization #organize ♬ original sound – Organized Chaos | Audrey
They wanted to give their children a helping hand.
She continued, saying that her family was “very disheartened” when they lost their house. “So we thought to ourselves, ‘How can we turn this into a blessing?” she shared. For her and her partner, the answer was to do something for their children as they were rebuilding their own lives.
“We just started thinking about generational wealth and our kids, and so we thought one thing we could do for them is create places for them to live in in our house, so that they can save up for their own house and they’re not ever going to waste money on rent or anything like that,” Audrey explained.
While she made it clear that they aren’t “millionaires,” they knew this was something attainable for them. “We can create generational wealth by allowing our kids to live with us as long as possible,” she said, sharing that they created the space for their daughter above their garage.

They have a plan for all of their children.
She also shared that their “oldest son will have his apartment in the basement and then there’s 11 years between my oldest and my youngest, so he will either be in the basement as well or he will take over hers when she moves out.”
Even though the family doesn’t consider it an apartment, Audrey explained that it’s “very large” for her 12-year-old. And even though the tween does does the majority of cleaning in the space, she says it can sometimes be “overwhelming” for her. Since the mom claims that acts of service is her “love language,” she doesn’t mind lending a helping hand.
People are on board with their idea of generational wealth.
“I love to see a parent that actually understands the seriousness of having a child and how to teach them how to succeed in life and not how to please the adults in their life!!” one person praised.
“I love this message.. generational wealth,” another wrote.
Someone else commented: “Having space for your kids when they’re older to not pay rent is AMAZING!!! She will appreciate this so much when she grows up.”
“I had an ‘apartment’ as a teen too,” another person commented. “It was so great to go to a local college and have a private place to come home to between work and studying.”
“I love this and I love that you are thinking of generational wealth,” one person exclaimed. “Big kuddos to you!!”
