Woman Uses Viral Portrait Date Night to Tell Her Husband She’s Pregnant

If you do things right and continue to date your partner even after you’re married, all of those date nights might start to run together. But one woman found a way to make one particular night in with her man one he’ll never forget.

What he thought was just a chance for them to participate in a viral social media couple’s trend was actually a way for his wife to share some life-changing news. His wife, who orchestrated the scheme, caught the whole thing on camera, and it will positively melt your heart.

Christina and Ryan met online.

Christina Kelley and her husband Ryan, who live in Philadelphia, met online in 2016, according to People. After talking and getting to know each other, the two decided to meet in person. They had what the couple described as “crazy chemistry,” and married in 2022.

The two vowed to give themselves a chance to get to spend time with just the two of them before having children. Nine months after that first year, Christina learned she was expecting.

Christina thought of the perfect way to tell her husband.

"I had this super vivid dream that I was pregnant. That Monday, I took a pregnancy test and found out. I didn't say anything yet because I wanted to kind of confirm it. The next day, I took another, more official test, which confirmed it," she said.

After she told her two childhood best friends, Christina thought of the perfect way to break the news to her husband.

"We'd already been talking about doing each other's portraits because it was a big trend earlier in the year for couples. They were really funny and we were always sending them to each other. So when I was thinking of how to surprise him, that came to mind," Christina explained.

Christina painted 'Baby Kelley, EST: 2025.'

@chrissy_vibes We have been planning to do the paint date night and this was the perfect way to surprise him with the news *Baby Kelley is actually due 12/30/24 but i was guessing at the time.* #datenight #paint #portraitart #pregnancytiktok #pregnancyannouncement #couplegoals #marriage #newparents #babytok #fypp #pregnant #parents #marriedlife ♬ original sound - jacquelinethoma

She texted her husband and told him she would pick up all of the supplies they needed. The two sat painting and laughing together for three hours. While Ryan was working hard to depict his wife accurately, Christina was painting her canvas to read: "Baby Kelley, EST: 2025."

"I had to kind of make up colors to match colors of what he was wearing and stuff, so he thought I was actually painting him," Christina said laughing. "I had to make up details as I went along because he was being a perfectionist about mine."

Ryan went through several emotions.

When Christina turned her painting over, it took Ryan a minute to register the message. "I didn't realize this until I watched the video back myself afterward, but you can tell by my facial expression that I went through it," he said.

He thought the whole thing might have been some type of joke. "I thought she was punking me and just didn't paint me, so I went from annoyed — because I just spent all this time painting her to surprise her and I was excited. I didn't process what her canvas said at first, so I thought it was just like a 'Gotcha.' Then I realized what it said and I was very surprised. Then it turned to excitement and happiness," he said.

But what got us the most was the look on his face when he finally figured it out: pure awe and joy.
