Secret Meeting Suggests King Charles & Prince Harry Might Both Be Open To Reconciliation

Though Prince Harry has said that he “would love reconciliation,” that hasn’t always seemed like a possibility. After the Duke of Sussex’s surprise BBC interview in May 2025, his relationship with his father, King Charles, looked especially bleak. At the time, royal sources suggested that reconciliation might not be possible. But now, things appear to be looking up.

Aides for Prince Harry and King Charles had a secret meeting.

On Saturday, July 12, the Daily Mail reported that Harry and Charles seemingly took a step toward repairing their relationship. Meredith Maines, Harry’s chief communications officer, traveled to London to meet with Tobyn Andreae, the king’s communications secretary. According to the publication, the “secret peace summit” was held at a private members-only club in London.

They still have a long way to go.

While the secret meeting seems to be a step in the right direction, the tension between Harry and his father is far from resolved. A source told the Daily Mail that “there’s a long road ahead.” However, the initial meeting means that “a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years.”

It also seems to be a sign that both Harry and Charles are open to reconciliation.

Though the meeting was meant to be a secret, it was reportedly casual in nature. Charles and Harry’s aides didn’t plan on addressing anything specific, but “there were things both sides wanted to talk about.” According to the Daily Mail’s source, “everyone just wants to move on and move forward now.” It’s not clear who initiated the meeting, but as the insider said, “it was finally the right time for the two sides to talk.”

Prince Harry recently opened up about his relationship with his father.

Harry has been estranged from his family for several years. In 2020, he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from royal duties and moved to the United States. Since then, Harry’s relationship with his father and his brother, Prince William, has been a subject of curiosity. During his BBC interview in May, Harry revealed that his father wasn’t speaking to him.

“I would love reconciliation with my family,” he said at the time. “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”
