Just when it seemed like Prince Harry was going to end another visit to the UK without seeing a single member of his family, he surprised everyone with a private meeting with his dad. On Wednesday, Harry and King Charles met in person for the first time in more than 19 months, marking the first time that the father and son have come face to face since Harry’s quick trip to see him after Charles was diagnosed with cancer last year.
According to People, Harry was photographed arriving at Clarence House — the London home the king shares with wife Camilla — late Wednesday afternoon and stayed for nearly an hour before he was seen leaving.
Following the earliest reports of Harry’s visit, both Buckingham Palace and a spokesperson for Harry confirmed that they had met for a private tea and that the details of their time together would not be shared publicly.
Following his tea with Charles, Harry attended a reception in honor of the Invictus Games. People later reported that when Harry was asked about Charles, he responded, “Yes, he’s great, thank you.”
It seems that his dad is the only family member Harry had plans to see while he was in town. Harry finished up his trip on Thursday, making a stop at an event for The Diana Award in honor of his late mother Princess Diana.
“He’s obviously loved being back in the U.K., catching up with old friends, colleagues, and just generally being able to support the incredible work of the causes that mean so much to him,” a spokesperson for Harry said.
Next, it seems like Harry will be headed home to wife Meghan Markle, who remained in California with the couple’s children, Archie and Lili.
There’s no word on whether or not Harry and Charles plan to see each other again in the future, but hopefully this short meeting was a step in the right direction for their relationship. The royal family feud may not be over yet, but this could be a positive sign that there’s still hope for them yet.
