A woman is calling for better protections for women and children after maintenance workers allegedly removed a security bar to get into her apartment. The woman, who goes by @joliebeky on TikTok, was sleeping in her apartment without clothes on when she suddenly woke up and discovered that several men had entered her home.
The whole experience has been “traumatizing” for her, especially because her property manager was allegedly dismissive.
A video the woman shared shows her confronting the men in her apartment.
When she walked out of her room naked, one of the men said “sorry” and they seemingly started walking toward the door. “What the f— are you guys doing?” the woman could be heard saying. They said they were “doing an inspection” and then asked her if they could come back into the main area of the apartment.
“Why are you in my apartment?” she questioned. They reiterated that they were doing an inspection, and clarified that they didn’t think anyone was home.
“I’m naked in my house, in my own privacy, and you can open the door?” she responded. She then said that she would call the police. Over the video, she wrote, “I’m butt-a– naked and woke up to a whole bunch of men inside of my apartment.”
To her, it seemed ‘completely unacceptable.’
@joliebeky I had an insane experience today. Maintenance or whoever is doing inspections came into my apartment and broke the metal security bar on my door to get in. I was asleep in my bed when I suddenly heard someone say “maintenance.” I asked my sister if we had ordered any maintenance, and she said no. As I started getting up, I heard multiple voices and realized there were several men inside my apartment. I was butt-ass naked in my own bed, in my own home. There are only women and a child living in this apartment, and to walk out and see a group of men standing in my living room without any permission is shocking and completely unacceptable. If they knocked and didn’t hear anything, they should have called or scheduled a proper time when I was available. Instead, they forced their way in. I’m completely in disbelief that something like this could happen, and I’ve already filed a police report and plan to press charges.

What really surprised the woman is that they they just entered her apartment when she didn’t answer the door. In the caption, she explained that they could’ve tried to call her, but “they forced their way in” instead. She added, “There are only women and a child living in this apartment, and to walk out and see a group of men standing in my living room without any permission is shocking and completely unacceptable.”
Though the men reportedly described themselves as maintenance, the woman said in another video that she didn’t know who they actually were, as she knows what her apartment’s maintenance team looks like.
The property manager’s response really bothered her.
@joliebeky Sorry the video is a bit long, I just wanted to answer all your questions without breaking it into too many parts.

In a follow-up video, the woman explained that she found out that the apartment did send out an email notifying her of the inspection the day prior, but she hadn’t seen it. But because of what happened when she tried to talk to the property manager about the incident, she decided to share it on TikTok.
According to her, she tried to contact the property manager after it happened, but the property manager didn’t respond. She then spoke to the property manager about the situation, but the property manager allegedly yelled at her, accused her of being aggressive, and did not apologize for what happened. “All I was expecting from them was a regular apology,” the woman said in one of her videos.
She felt ‘violated’ and thought the property manager would understand.
Because her property manager is a woman, she was expecting more empathy from her. “People unlocked my door, removed my security bar to be able to get inside my place…” she said.
“If this had happened to you, or your children, or the women in your family, how would you have felt? Would you not have felt violated?”
The night after the incident happened, she felt “so afraid” and “had a horrible night.” Her property manager’s dismissive attitude made her even more upset.
“As a woman, you should understand this feeling of being vulnerable,” she said, adding, “If I’m coming to you as a woman and you’re a mother, you have children, you have daughters, you should understand where I’m coming from.”
She decided to share the story because she thinks women and children need more protection. “Women deserve to feel safe in their space,” she said.
In the comments, people felt for her.
They couldn’t believe how the apartment seemed to handle the situation. When she walked out naked, the maintenance men did not appear to leave, for one thing. “The fact that they didn’t immediately leave,” one person pointed out, while another person added that they asked, “Can we come in?” when they were already inside the apartment.
Others didn’t believe the men’s claim that they didn’t think anyone was home. “they removed the security bar. they knew someone was home,” one of them argued.
Some landlords and property managers also offered their perspectives on the situation. One of them said the men should’ve called out “maintenance” loudly several times before actually entering the apartment. They added that the men should “AT LEAST be severely apologetic once they realized you were shocked by their presence.”
They also explained, “I complete unit inspections bi annually and if I provide a written notice, knocked loudly, called out verbally, called, went to other apts on your floor to give some time and still no answer I would come in anyways.”
