Britney Spears Slams Media Over New Album Rumors, Says She ‘Will Never’ Return to Music

It’s been more than seven years since Britney Spears last released a full studio album, and fans have been wondering when the next one will arrive, especially after she was freed from her conservatorship more than two years ago. But unfortunately, her latest update may not be what they wanted to hear. This week, Britney took to Instagram to clear up rumors that her next album is in the works, and it sounds like she’s already got her plans for this next chapter of her life in order, even if it’s not quite what some people might have expected.

Rumors about Britney's reported collaborations began this week.

Britney is reportedly gearing up to record her 10th studio album, and she’s enlisting the help of fellow pop queens to get it done, according to what sources told Page Six. The insider said that included both Julia Michaels and Charli XCX, who had supposedly already signed on to write for the project.

The report went on to say that no recording had been done and that the album was still in the very early stages and “starting to take shape.”

Britney wasted no time clearing up the rumors.

The same day the report from Page Six was published, Britney took to Instagram to clear the air alongside a photo of a famous painting by Baroque Italian artist Guido Reni.

“Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!!” Britney explained in her caption.

It seems songwriting is where Brit's heart is, not recording.

“I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!” she shared.

No word on what those songs are that Britney has helped other musicians write, but it would definitely be interesting to find out what hits she may have had a hand in!

Britney's team is hoping to change her mind, though.

Insiders told Rolling Stone that Britney’s management is “trying to get her excited for the music” but they may not end up getting what they want.

“As of right now, she’s not actively in recording but they’re getting [songs] done to present to her. Nothing is cemented or in stone,” the source said.

Britney may never release another album.

And that’s fine — after everything she’s been through in her life, she deserves to follow the path that makes her happiest.

Besides, there are so many hits to listen to and look back on that Britney has already released. Let’s be real: Belting out “Stronger” in the car is never going to get old.
