Donald Trump Had a Surprising Reaction to Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce’s Engagement News

The moment Taylor Swift fans have spent the past two years waiting for finally happened on Tuesday. In the sweetest Instagram post, Taylor revealed that she and Travis Kelce are engaged, and it’s all anyone can talk about … and now, the president is weighing in, too. Now that Donald Trump has officially shared his reaction to Taylor’s engagement news, it’s not at all what people were expecting from him.

Taylor and Travis announced their engagement on Tuesday afternoon.

Sharing photos of Travis’ proposal — which took place in the backyard of their Missouri home, where they were surrounded by pink flowers — Taylor wrote, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Considering the fact that so many fans have been rooting for these two to be end game, it’s no surprise that their joint Instagram post has already garnered 29 million likes and counting.

Trump is wishing Taylor and Travis luck.

As multiple outlets including Billboard have already reported, Trump was asked about Taylor and Travis’ engagement during a cabinet meeting just hours after the news broke.

“Well, I wish them a lot of luck,” he said. “I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”

This is a major shift from his most recent Taylor takes.

Hearing Trump call Taylor a “terrific person” is surprising, since the last time he spoke about her — just earlier this month — he actually said he hated her (and it wasn’t the first time, either).

While praising Sydney Sweeney’s controversial American Eagle ad in a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”

Trump and Taylor have never seen eye to eye.

Taylor has never been supportive of Trump or his political policies, and endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

“Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” she wrote in an Instagram post in September 2024. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”
