In 2018, Kody Brown planned on sharing land called Coyote Pass with his four wives. That was, of course, before three of his wives left him. One of the “Sister Wives,” Christine Brown, previously sold her share of the land to Kody. But Janelle and Meri both felt entitled to their share of land, and threatened to take legal action. Now, the Sister Wives stars have reportedly resolved the messy land dispute.
Kody previously argued that he paid for most of the property.
When Kody bought Coyote Pass in 2018, he paid $820,000. He planned on building separate homes on the property so each of his wives would have their own place to live while also living in close proximity to each other. After Christine, Janelle, and Meri all left Kody, both Meri and Janelle felt like they should have a say when it came to what to do with the property. However, Kody seemed to disagree with this take, as he argued that he paid for most of the land himself.
“We didn’t pay for Coyote Pass all equally,” he said on Sister Wives in January. “I paid for an entire lot all by myself, at least 92% of it.”
He went on to say that Christine, Janelle, Meri, and his current wife, Robyn Brown, simply “chipped in.”
Janelle and Meri both threatened to take legal action.
Kody and Robyn considered selling the property, but Meri didn’t see this as their decision to make. “I don’t think you get to decide what to do with it,” Meri said of Kody when talking to Janelle about the land dispute. “Sorry, you are not the head of my family.”
Janelle encouraged Meri to hire a lawyer, and Meri said she would. “I’m so, so glad Meri understands it’s wise to have a lawyer because we’re not family anymore,” Janelle previously said on Sister Wives. “I mean, this is people now trying to dissolve a business that went bad, basically.”
At the time, Meri said that none of them felt like they could trust one another, so they weren’t communicating openly about what they wanted to do about the property.
“I feel like Kody and Robyn probably have some plan of what they want to do, and how they want to handle it,” she said. “I think that Janelle has some sort of plan, and I know that I do as well. None of us are talking to each other because none of us trust each other.”
But they eventually figured it out.
According to property records obtained by In Touch, the Sister Wives stars managed to figure out how to divide the land. Kody and Robyn now own 50% of the land, while Meri and Janelle each own 25% of Coyote Pass, the publication reported.
Court records dated March 26 and obtained by The U.S. Sun read, “Kody Winn Brown and Robyn Alice Brown, Husband and Wife, as Community Property with Right of Survivorship, as to an undivided 50% interest.”
As for Janelle and Meri, the documents read, “Janelle Brown, an Unmarried Woman, as to an undivided 25% interest and Meri Caroline Brown, An Unmarried Woman, as to an undivided 25% interest the following real properties.”
