People Are Really Bothered By a ‘Rule’ Paris Hilton Has in Her Home

A short, lighthearted video Paris Hilton shared has sparked a weird amount of backlash. In the video, Paris, 45, walked hand in hand with her kiddos, Phoenix, 3, and London, 2. Each of them sported their own all-pink outfit. And because they were clearly looking fabulous, Paris said, “Come on, let’s look in the mirror. Never pass a mirror without looking in it.” Most people found the video adorable, especially because of the way Phoenix reacted to what his mom said, but others were quick to critique Paris’ parenting.

Phoenix immediately asked his mom “why” they had to look in the mirror.

Paris was clearly prepared to answer. She said, “Because it’s a rule in this family.” Phoenix, however, disagreed with his mom’s “rule.” His reaction suggested that he’s never heard of this supposed “rule” before, and he called her out for it.

“No, it’s not a rule!” he corrected. Paris laughed and told her kids she was kidding, but Phoenix continued to repeat, “It’s not a rule.”

A lot of people on TikTok found this hilarious. Other moms could relate because they, too, have been humbled by their toddlers. “nothing like a toddler to humble you 😂🥰” one person commented on the video. And someone else said, “Ah, a true toddler- providing corrections in real time lol ♥️” Fans of Paris said the video is exactly like how they imagined she would be as a mom, and they love that for her.

And even if it wasn’t the most relatable parenting moment ever, the video was cute and fun.

Except some people accused Paris of teaching her kids the wrong values.

After watching the 14-second clip, some critics came to some pretty intense conclusions about Paris’ parenting. They left comments that implied that Paris is teaching her children to be superficial and vain. Several people called the clip “sad” or “ridiculous.”

Paris even said she was kidding in her video, but critics reacted as if the “never pass a mirror without looking in it” rule is a genuine rule that Paris enforces in her home. “teaching vanity is wild. 😂,” one critic reacted. Someone else wrote, “Be careful not to impart the wrong message/values to your children…”

Some of the people who were mad about it did not actually specify why the clip bothered them so much, but they made their judgment evident anyway. “Oh so many things wrong here,” someone commented. “This is not a normal life,” another critic wrote. And, of course, probably no one would argue that Paris Hilton and her family are living “normal” lives. But is looking at yourself in the mirror (or joking about it) really that strange or offensive?

A few of the critics also implied that Paris is far too extra because of their glamorous pink outfits. “so glad I’m down to earth…” someone commented. “jeans and t-shirt girl here !!” Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with jeans and T-shirts, but…

Can’t a mom dress up and buy cute outfits for her kids?

A few of the critics acted like they felt sorry for Paris’ children, leaving comments like “poor kids” and “let them be kids.” This topic was surprisingly divisive, as some argued that nothing about Paris’ video suggests that she’s not letting her kids be kids. After all, as some people pointed out in Paris’ defense, many kids enjoy playing dress up.

But to some of the naysayers, Paris’ video made it seem less like “playing” and more like Paris expecting her kids to look “perfect” or something. “Let them get dirty. With you beside them,” one person advised. “Best memories ever! Perfect must be exhausting.”

However, other people jumped to Paris’ defense and questioned why critics took the clip so seriously. “Jeez. She was joking!” someone said. “Lighten up everyone.” And even if Paris was only half-joking, some fans saw no issue with the silly “rule” she mentioned. “Best rule ever!” one of them wrote. “Showing those babies confidence. 💯✨🥰”
