It’s no secret that most weddings are expensive. There is the dress, venue, cake, food, decor, and so much more that goes into it. So it’s pretty normal for a bride to expect guests to bring a gift from the registry or perhaps enough money to cover their plate of food. It is not normal, however, for a bride to demand at least $1,156 ($1,500 CAD) from every guest so they can fund her dream Kardashian-style bash in Aruba.
In a thread that went viral on Reddit, Facebook screenshots reveal how one Canadian bride canceled her wedding, dumped her fiancé, and packed her bags for South America alone, all because guests didn’t fund her over-the-top extravaganza.

In a very, very long rant, the bride announced her decision to cancel the wedding and delete her Facebook account because of the 'toxic energy; of her loved ones.

The bride wrote that she is canceling the wedding (four days beforehand) because she and her fiancé have broken up. She decided to delete her social media and spend two months backpacking through South America “exploring her soul” and “ridding herself of toxic energy.”
The reason? Because her friends and family “stabbed her in the back” by not paying more than $1,000 each to attend her dream destination wedding.
She shared how after falling in love with her ex at age 14 and having a child together by age 20, they began saving for her dream wedding.

They were able to save up $11,564 ($15,000 CAD), but decided that the wedding they wanted would cost $46,256 ($60,000 CAD). This means that they needed to find a way to fill the gap, and rather than scaling down their wedding, they decided it would be on their guests to cough up the cash.
She explained how if someone couldn't contribute at least $1,156, then that person wasn't invited to their 'once in a lifetime party.'

The bride writes that after sending out RSVPs, only eight people responded and sent them a check. People then started to back out, including the maid-of-honor and the fiancé’s parents, who had allegedly agreed to give them more than the $1,156 minimum.
I mean, 'clearly' that's not a lot of money ...

Although many people would consider spending more than $1,000 on a wedding gift to be a lot, this bride didn’t. In fact, it seems like she believed she wasn’t asking much from her guests — you know, the people in her life she loves enough to invite to her wedding in the first place.

Since the couple was obviously not going to get the amount of donations they needed, her fiancé suggested a less expensive wedding in Vegas.

I’m sure you can guess how well that went over.
The bride wrote that she “laughed in his face.” She continued to explain how she thinks Vegas weddings are cheap, trashy, and raggedy. Yikes!
Unsurprisingly, her fiancé was upset and she slowly started losing all of her friends over her wedding obsession. She also accuses her (now ex) fiancé of cheating and gossiping about her with her ex-best friend.
Oh, and she also refused to give back the money to the people who actually did send checks until they can pay her back for the “emotional distress.”
She ends it by saying she's cutting everyone off.

And let’s just say she didn’t get an outpouring of sympathy in the comments (and we have a feeling her guests probably reacted the same way).
