My Family Called My Halloween Wedding ‘Satanic’ so I Disinvited All 25 of Them

Family members have a special way of getting under our skin. They know what to say to cut deep. And because of the importance of your relationship, many people struggle to confront their families when they do and say things that offend. It’s rare that people demand the respect they deserve from their family, especially when it comes to big life events such as weddings and funerals.

But that wasn’t the case for one bride who absolutely put her foot down and left her family with cake on their faces.

The bride's family said her wedding was 'satanic' and asked her to make changes.

The bride hopped on Reddit to ask if she had taken things too far by disinviting her disagreeable family members from her Halloween-themed wedding. This unorthodox bride wrote that she had been planning her wedding for two years. Now, with just a little more than a month before the big day, her family started complaining about the whole thing.

“All the sudden my mom and grandma decided the wedding was satanic and want me to make last minute changes,” she wrote.

When her family threatened her, she made their wishes come true and uninvited them.

Instead of caving to their demands for changes or asking about a compromise, this bride told her family no. She wasn’t making any changes to her special day. Instead of respecting her wishes, her family tried to force her hand. “Half my mom’s side thought they would be cute and say they aren’t coming in a random a– power struggle,” she shared.

But this manipulation didn’t work on our spooky bride. Instead of pleading with them to attend, she said fine. She canceled everyone’s invitations who complained or agreed with her mom and grandma about the day being satanic. She even removed one of her sister’s from bridesmaid’s duty.

“It was about 25 people that decided to act stupid at less than 6 week mark so I sent out uninvited invitation and I sent out new QR codes for those attending and the venue will check in by only those to let people in,” she explained in her post.

'Everyone f---ed around and found out,' the OP wrote.

“My aunt (who was one of the uninvited) told me people are allowed to disagree with me and that doesn’t mean can pull an invitation from a wedding that they have made plans to attend,” the OP wrote. “I told my aunt they had two years for complaints but saying you are not going at 6 weeks before my wedding is bulls— and everyone f—ed around and found out I will not be bullied by my family over this.”

It seemed like this woman already had her mind made up. Still, she wrote under the “am I the a—hole” forum. She wondered if she had taken things too far when people had indeed made plans to attend the wedding and may have spent money and asked for time off work to be there.

Reddit users agreed almost unanimously that she was not the one being the jerk.

In fact, people thought others should follow her example. “This is the kind of assertiveness I want to see more of when people are dealing with unreasonable family members,” one person wrote.

Someone else had additional words for the OP’s aunt. “Tell your aunt that you only want people at your wedding who fully support you and your new spouse,” the person suggested.

Another commenter was quick to note there is a difference between a disagreement versus someone likening your wedding to something demonic.

“They are allowed to disagree with you. From the comfort of their own homes,” the commenter wrote. “Telling someone their wedding 1) is satanic, and 2) needs to change is not ‘disagreement.’ It is a request that you alter your wedding to suit them, and you are perfectly within your rights to decline to spend your day with people judging you that hard. Have a great time with the guests who aren’t jerks.”

Cheers to this bride for standing up for herself and hopefully teaching her family a lesson about manipulation.
