Woman Finds Out Her Husband Has Been Telling His Coworkers That She’s Actually His Sister

People have different opinions about how much time you should spend with your partner. Although some couples have lots of mutual friends and like to bring their partners to parties and events, other people are more comfortable having separate friend groups and not inviting their partners to everything. When it comes to work parties, some will happily tag along as a plus-one but others would prefer to stay home and not make conversation with their partner's coworkers.

One woman is part of the latter camp. She is more introverted, has her own group of friends, and has never met her husband's colleagues. She was perfectly fine with until she ran into some of his coworkers and they thought she was his sister, not his wife. Now she has no idea how to talk to her husband about it.

Her husband has worked at the same company for about three years.

On a Reddit relationship forum, the woman explained the situation. She and her husband, Josh, have been together for six years and have been married for four. He has worked at his current company for about three years.

Josh "loves" his job and spends a decent amount of time socializing with coworkers outside of work. She never had any interest in joining in and explained why. "I'm quite introverted so I've never been interested in meeting his colleagues or work friends, nor have I asked to. I've got my own circle of friends and I'm fine with us having separate friend groups," she wrote.

She happened to meet one of Josh's coworkers at a bar.

The woman coincidentally met one of Josh's coworkers while she was at a bar with some of her friends. A man, who was also there with friends, approached her. She was taken aback when the man knew her name. Appearing to sense this, the man explained that he works with Josh.

The man, who was "already a couple of beers deep," kept talking to her and eventually made a strange comment. "It's great that you guys are still so close. I haven't talked to my brother in ages," he said to her.

Although the comment definitely seemed weird, the woman assumed he was drunk and shrugged it off. The man started flirting with her, and she left shortly after that.

The interaction seems weirder in retrospect.

The woman didn't tell her husband about the interaction. "I figured the guy wouldn't even remember talking to me, and I didn't want to make it awkward for Josh at work by telling him his colleague tried to hit on me. I just thought no harm no foul," she said.

Knowing what she knows now, however, she finds this particular interaction from months ago a lot more suspicious.

Another coworker thought that she was Josh's sister.

If it had happened one time, it could've been a simple misunderstanding or drunken mistake. The woman didn't truly start suspecting that something was up until she ran into another one of Josh's coworkers at a cafe.

When she was in line at the cafe with her dog, a man turned around and greeted her dog, Monty. "Monty was super excited to see him, apparently, and so I guessed that the guy was another colleague of Josh's, because Josh brings the dog to the office a couple of times a week," she explained.

The man introduced himself as Josh's coworker, and then said, "Aren't you a good sister, walking his dog for him!"

She didn't know how to respond.

Caught off guard, she just said that the dog is hers and didn't explain that she's actually Josh's wife. "It was just too awkward, and I just wanted to leave because I think was suddenly dawning on me what might have been going on," she explained.

Now, she doesn't know what to do. Because the situation is "so weird and embarrassing," she has only told one friend and isn't sure how to talk to her husband about it.

Redditors saw it as a major red flag.

People on Reddit couldn't think of a single good reason why Josh would tell his coworkers that his wife is his sister. Many suggested he might be having an affair or acting single when he goes out with his coworkers.

The woman said she knows her husband "so well," and the comments about him potentially cheating made her feel stupid for trusting him.

"You are not stupid for trusting your husband! I understand why you feel that way, but he is the stupid one, not you," one person pointed out.

One person called Josh's behavior a "flaming red flag."

"The fact that over the past 3 years, he has worked with these people everyday, hangs outside of work with them, they know your dog but they DON’T know you are his wife is a flaming red flag for me," the commenter wrote.
