Mom of 5 Dies After Nonsurgical Brazilian Butt Lift Performed in the UK

Cosmetic enhancements may make you look and feel better in your body, but they always come with an incredible risk to your safety. We’ve seen many horror stories about people enduring pain and suffering all in the name of “improving” their bodies. In recent years, we’ve heard of so many moms going to have cosmetic procedures — so-called “mommy makeovers” — and losing their lives, leaving their families devastated.

A family in the UK is mourning the death of their mother after she got a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure done at a clinic. While the clinic claims her death is a first, it’s still a cause for concern.

The mom became ill after having a nonsurgical 'Brazilian butt lift.'

Alice Webb, a 33-year-old mother of five, died at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital early in the morning on Tuesday, September 24, The Independent reported. Webb felt unwell after having a nonsurgical liquid Brazilian butt lift procedure done at a clinic.

The Gloucestershire police have already launched an investigation and arrested two people on suspicion of manslaughter. Both have since been released on bail.

Webb is allegedly the first person to die from the procedure, but others have been harmed.

The Independent spoke with Save Face, a national register of accredited practitioners who offer nonsurgical cosmetic treatments. Their team has been in touch with Webb’s family.

The organization told the newspaper that no one had previously died from the procedure at a UK clinic, but some have had life-threatening complications. Save Face has been calling for the government to ban liquid BBL procedures since December, fearing that something like this could happen.

“It makes me incredibly sad and angry that Alice’s death could and should have been prevented,” Ashton Collins, director of Save Face told The Independent.

“We launched a campaign in December 2023 calling upon the government to take urgent action to ban these procedures. We made it absolutely clear, that without urgent intervention someone would die. I am devasted by the news of Alice’s passing,” Collins said.

Nonsurgical BBLs aren’t illegal in the UK, and The Independent reported that people who aren’t trained can do them.

The procedure has caused life-threatening injuries to hundreds of women.

Save Face told the outlet that it has provided support for 500 women who have suffered life-threatening illness from liquid BBL procedures. More than 50% reported to the organization that they contracted sepsis, while 39% needed corrective surgery.

“Liquid BBL procedures are a crisis waiting to happen. They are advertised on social media as ‘risk-free’, ‘cheaper’ alternatives to the surgical counterpart and that could not be further from the truth,” Collins said. “All of the procedures reported to us were carried out by non-healthcare practitioners who are carrying out incredibly dangerous procedures in unsterile environments.”

She continued, “I would advise anyone considering one of these treatments to avoid them at all costs. The risks significantly outweigh any associated benefits.”

Webb's family and friends are in mourning.

Webb’s partner, Dane Knight, posted a tribute to Webb on his Facebook writing: “Want to say a heart felt thank you to all family and friends that were here for us at our time of need, including all of the kind messages sent to my children and myself. There was some very beautiful messages sent by some of your children that formed a start of a smile from the corner of my kids mouth.

Please, please have these 5 girls feelings at heart here,” he wrote.

Amy Seville, one of Webb’s friends, wrote: “This past 24 hours has been a dream I’ve so desperately wanted to wake up from you were the best friend anyone could ever ask for I’m heartbroken that you had to grow your angel wings 🪽 and become another guardian angel to watch over me your family the kids and Dane!
