A Brazilian woman is currently in the hospital after a terrifying encounter with her romantic partner. Shocking footage shows the woman set on fire by the man, and her attempts to escape. There are not many details about the couple, but it seems clear that the man intends to kill the woman. However, she is determined to survive, and successfully breaks away from him to save her own life. Thankfully, she was able to get help, but she has a long road ahead of her.
The 22-year-old woman lives in the rural area of Cuparaque, Brazil, TMZ reported. In the chilling surveillance video, the woman is set on fire by her allegedly drunk partner as she holds her 3-year-old son. She can be seen running away as the flames begin to engulf her, running into a neighbor’s yard.
Her partner runs behind her, and the little boy is caught in the chaos, following behind. The footage is hard to watch.
The woman then jumps into a pool, and the water puts out the flames. At this time, another man, who is believed to be the neighbor and owner of the pool, rushes to help her. According to reports, the partner attempted to set the woman on fire again after she got out of the pool. He only stopped when he heard police sirens approaching.
According to Moon-10, police reports say the 31-year-old partner came home drunk. He reportedly demanded that she leave the house, becoming violent before she could do anything. Allegedly, he poured gasoline over the woman, and set her on fire.
The woman was taken to Governador Valadares Hospital. She has burns over 40% of her body. Currently, she is in serious but stable condition. Despite her serious injuries, she was able to give police a statement from her hospital bed. Her son was not physically harmed, and is now in the care of his grandmother.
A warrant has been issued for the man’s arrest. He faces attempted homicide charges. Police have not yet arrested the man.
