14-Year-Old Boy May Need Feet Amputated After Being Electrocuted at $76K Per Year Boarding School

Doctors have amputated most of the toes of 14-year-old Chase Allen, and there’s a possibility he may have to lose his feet as well. On May 3, 2025, Chase and two other boys were electrocuted by an overhead high-voltage cable at the Millfield School. Located in the United Kingdom, Millfield is one of the most prestigious boarding schools in the country and one of the most expensive, with an annual tuition of Ā£58,000, or approximately $76,000 USD.

Now, school administrators are advising the school community to ā€œavoid speculation” as they investigate the incident.

All three boys needed surgery.

Emergency vehicles, including paramedics, an air ambulance, police, and a fire crew reported to Millfield after they learned of the accident, The London Standard reported. The three boys each required surgery. As for Chase, his internal organs had damage, and doctors decided to remove most of his toes because the burns he received were so severe.

Another parent provided a health update.

In the days since his injury, another parent at Millfield has launched a GoFundMe page to support Chase and his family. Daveene, the fundraiser organizer, also provided a health update for Chase.

ā€œChase is now in a critical condition,ā€ she wrote. ā€œHis feet may have to be amputated and NHS surgeons are working tirelessly. They remain uncertain whether they will be able to save his feet as the burns have caused critical damage…Careful fluid therapy is being used for his internal injuries.ā€

Daveene writes that doctors expect Chase to remain in the hospital for two months while he recovers.

The school is offering counseling to other students.

In another update, a family member stated that Chase was recovering the day before doctors performed his fifth surgery. The relative also thanked the community for its support. Since the incident, Millfield Head Teacher Gavin Horgan sent a letter home to parents. In it, he confirmed that a ā€œserious incident occurredā€ because of ā€œoverhead electrical cables.ā€

Although he said the extent of the boys’ injuries are unknown, Horgan noted that counseling will be available to the students who might need it.Ā

The school is still investigating.

A school spokesperson assured parents that, ā€œThere is no ongoing danger to others ā€¦ā€ in the wake of the accident. ā€œWe ask for everyone to respect their privacy and avoid speculation,ā€ the person continued, according to The Standard. ā€œWe are working closely with the authorities to investigate how the accident occurred.ā€
