Back-to-school season is in full swing for most people. Although the school year is still fresh, that’s not stopping wild situations from taking place. Tamika Jackson, a school bus monitor in New Orleans, knows that all too well. The woman was allegedly attacked by a high school student and the girl’s mother after not allowing the teen to sit in the back of the bus. Jackson alleges that she received a pretty intense beating, including being bitten, all because she was doing her job and enforcing rules.
Johnny Jackson, Tamika’s husband, spoke with WVUE about the August 21, 2025, incident. He said that the student, who attends McDonogh 35 High School, allegedly called her mother after being told by the school bus monitor that she couldn’t sit in the back of the bus.
“For the previous week and a half, a lot of the students have been going to the back of the bus, and my wife suspected they may be doing some lewd acts toward the back of the bus, so she told the student, ‘Hey, you can’t go back there,’” he said.
Then the girl allegedly called her mom, who got onto the bus at another stop along the route. As soon as the mother boarded the bus, the attack began. “The mother… then just reaches out and hits her in the face, and then the assault occurs so now the daughter joins the fray,” Johnny Jackson explained.
He described the injuries his wife received as fairly severe. He claimed they “bit her in her face, on her lips, on her thumbs, scratched face,” as well as “pulled her hair out,” per WVUE. Not only that, but now his wife also has a “large gash running across her face.” The attack required Tamika Jackson to seek treatment at the emergency room.
Video of the attack was released by WVUE.

Johnny Jackson claims that the school bus monitor herself was actually issued a Municipal Court summons for disturbing the peace. “Until they get video footage, they have to treat this as a routine fight, which is insane knowing that my wife is at work,” he said.
Meanwhile, InspireNOLA, which runs the charter school attended by the girl, is looking into the incident as well.
“InspireNOLA Charter Schools is aware of an unfortunate incident that took place Thursday afternoon on a school bus transporting students,” school officials shared in a statement provided to People. “We are actively investigating the matter in collaboration with the school bus company and local authorities. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain a top priority.”
The New Orleans Police Department told both WVUE and People that there are no reports in their system related to the incident.
