Martha Stewart has never been one to beat around the bush at any point in her decades-long career, but this time, she may end up regretting that she shared her opinion. After Martha recently met Meghan Markle in person, she shared her take on the former working royal and her pivot to the lifestyle space, and it doesn’t sound like Martha was very impressed with her. But despite how much people seem to enjoy snarking on Meghan, this time, they’re coming to her defense while also ripping Martha apart.
Martha had dinner with Meghan recently and shared her take on her career.
In a new interview with People that was published this week, Martha said that she and Meghan were guests at the same party and were able to interact — not much, though.
“I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace,” Martha said. “I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it.”
Martha was then asked what she thinks about Meghan’s series With Love, Meghan, to which Martha replied, “If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there.”

People are coming for Martha’s throat over this one.
Meghan doesn’t often get a lot of love from the internet, but this time is different — at least, on one Reddit post about Martha’s interview. People are thinking it’s a bit hypocritical of her to throw stones Meghan’s way when she’s made her own controversial moves in the past.
Even the title of the post was brutal: “The lifestyle guru who pivoted to becoming a felon Martha Stewart has a lot to say about Meghan Markle pivoting.”
One commenter wrote, “Martha acting like she wasn’t a model before becoming a Homemaking Guru.”
Another added, “I have no respect for anyone who piles on to a woman already being bullied on a daily basis by some of the worst, most unhinged people in the world.”
Martha may not be a very reliable narrator, though.
According to what the host of the dinner party both women were at told Page Six, Martha’s comment about Meghan talking about her visit to the palace isn’t accurate.
“I sat next to Meghan at the dinner party and this account of what happened is simply untrue,” the source said. “Meghan didn’t talk about her European vacation other than to say the family had a great time. Meghan has always been a fan of Martha’s and enjoyed getting to meet her briefly at the dinner.”
Ouch!
