Jada Pinkett Smith has never been afraid of sharing the most intimate details of her life, especially her marriage to Will Smith. Some people would say that over the years, we’ve been forced to learn too much about the inner workings of their 20+ year union. It’s because of this that the world was shocked when Jada revealed during the promotion for her memoir, Worthy, that she and Will had been separated since 2016. And while it was surprising to hear they'd already been separated for years when Will famously slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, calling her his wife in the process, apparently, that was the night that changed everything.

Jada and Will have reconciled and no longer consider themselves separated.
According to Hollywood Unlocked, Jada revealed at a tour stop for Worthy that she and Will no longer consider themselves separated after everything changed the fateful night of the Oscars in March of 2022.
"This is where the media wants to clamp on something and spin it all around, and I get it. Yes, we were separated for seven years … UNTIL … Oscars night!" she shared.
The Oscars moment had people talking for weeks — if not longer.
Chris was on stage and cracked a joke comparing Jada to G.I. Jane, despite the fact that she's been open about the fact that having alopecia has been rough on her. It was then that Will calmly took to the stage himself, slapped Chris, and then went back to his seat, where he yelled, "Keep my wife's name out of your f—ing mouth!"
Will later ended up resigning from the Academy after he was banned for the Oscars for 10 years.
At the time of the Oscars, they weren't calling each other 'husband' and 'wife.'
During her NBC News interview with Hoda Kotb, Jada admitted it was pretty jarring to hear Will refer to her as his wife before he slapped Chris. Due to their separation, that wasn’t language they were using anymore.
"Now first of all, I’m really shocked because, mind you, we haven’t called each other husband and wife in a long time," she explained in the interview. "I’m like, 'What is going on right now?'"
That night was a turning point in their relationship.
Will stepping up for her like that caused something to change for Jada.
"Believe it or not, it’s crazy how intense events can bring people together. Because once the Oscars happened, Will and I got closer," she told Stephen Colbert during a recent appearance on The Late Show.
When the host asked about the status of the couple's relationship, she was quick to say, "that’s still my man," before adding, "uncoupling consciously is a really difficult thing."

Jada and Will are still committed to each other, even if they don't have all the answers yet.
Even though they are no longer separated, "we’re still figuring it out,” Jada told People earlier this month. "We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us."
