Patrick Mahomes Will Not Endorse Any Candidate After Donald Trump Praises Wife Brittany

Conversations about politics could not be completely avoided by Patrick Mahomes during his regularly scheduled media availability on Wednesday, September 11, but he tried to remain neutral. Given that former president Donald Trump has spoken about the Mahomes family and specifically praised Patrick's wife, Brittany, reporters asked the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback several questions related to comments Trump has made recently.

Patrick, 28, said he will not endorse any presidential candidate. "I’ve always said, I don’t want my place or my platform to be used to endorse a candidate either way," he explained.

He will inform people about voting but not tell them whom to vote for.

“I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It is to inform people to do their own research and then make their best decision for them and their family," Patrick continued.

He added that he will continue to answer this way when asked about politics "because I think that’s what makes America so great."

The questions for Patrick came after his wife reportedly liked one of Trump's posts.

Last month, Patrick's wife Brittany appeared to like one of Donald Trump's Instagram posts. The post outlined the "2024 GOP platform" and called for things such as "seal the border, and stop the migrant invasion," "carry out the largest deportation operation in American history," and "end inflation, and Make America Affordable Again," among others.

After receiving backlash for liking the post, Brittany reportedly unliked it.

Though Brittany has not officially endorsed Donald Trump, Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to thank Brittany for her support.

"I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me," Trump wrote on September 4. In the same post, he added, "What a great couple – See you both at the Super Bowl!"

When asked about Taylor Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris, Trump said he prefers Brittany Mahomes.

Trump continues to make comments about Brittany. On Tuesday, September 10, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris. The next day, Trump was asked about how he felt about Taylor's endorsement in a Fox News interview. Trump shrugged the endorsement off by saying he actually prefers Brittany.

"I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan," Trump told Fox News.

He said he's not a Taylor fan. "I like Brittany. I think Brittany’s great," he added, calling her "a big MAGA fan."

Reporters specifically asked Patrick about Trump's mention of Brittany.

The NFL star was asked about how he felt about Trump mentioning his wife by name. "I think at the end of the day, it's about me and my family and how we treat other people," Patrick said. “I think you see that Brittany does a lot in the community. I do a lot in the community to help bring people up and give people other opportunities to use their voice."

He explained why he doesn't let comments like Trump's affect him too much.

"In the political times, people are gonna use stuff here and there, but I can’t let that affect how I go about my business every single day and live my life – and try to live it to the best of my ability," he said.

Patrick was also asked about his friendship with Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.

Patrick and Brittany enjoyed a double date with Taylor and Travis over the weekend. At the recent press conference, he was asked if the date could be considered a way to show people "that people who have different philosophies" could set their differences aside.

When answering the question, Patrick avoided saying anything about his political views but said that when deciding whom to spend time with, other traits are more important than people's political beliefs.

"Whenever I’m hanging out with whoever I’m not thinking about their political views or anything like that," he said. "I’m thinking about the people and how they treat other people, and I was with a lot of great people this weekend.”

He explained the value of being around people who have differing perspectives and experiences.

Although Patrick did not confirm or deny that his family has "different philosophies" compared to Taylor and Travis, he did explain why he thinks spending time with people of diverse backgrounds is valuable.

"Dating back, if you’ve seen my history, I've grown up with people from every aspect of life, and every background," Patrick said, according to People.

"I think the best thing about a football locker room, and kind of how I've grown up in baseball locker rooms, is that people come together and achieve a common goal," he continued. "We talked about it a while back but I think if we can do that as a nation, I think we can get the best out of each other."
