A bride chose to honor her late mom by wearing her wedding dress during her own wedding ceremony. Bride Grace Mixon decided to keep the decision a secret from both her now-husband and her dad, and she says she was “nervous excited” to see her dad’s reaction.
When Grace’s dad first saw his daughter wearing his late wife’s wedding dress, he burst into tears. The special moment was captured on camera and shared on social media after Grace’s September wedding.

The bride initially bought her own wedding dress but 'something didn't feel right.'
When Grace was preparing for her special day, like most brides, she went wedding dress shopping. In December 2023, she “bought a wedding dress off the sale rack at davidās bridal,” she explained on Instagram.
A couple months later, she realized that “something didnāt feel right about the dress [she] chose.” While at her grandparents’ house, she decided to try on the wedding dress that her late mom, who died in 2022, wore for her 1997 wedding, she explained to Good Morning America.

When trying on her late mom’s dress, Grace realized that the dress was perfect for her. “It fit me like a glove ā no alterations needed,” she explained on Instagram. To her, this was a sign. “I took it as a sign that this was the way i needed to honor my mother, by wearing her wedding dress,” she wrote.

Grace decided to wear her mom's wedding dress for her special day, but she kept it a secret.
After making the decision to wear her late mom’s wedding dress, Grace also decided that she didn’t want people to know about the dress until her wedding ceremony.
“Keeping this a secret was so tough,” she said, but “so worth it.” She only told a few people about the wedding dress prior to her wedding because she didn’t want her dad to find out about it.
The wedding dress made her day extra special for multiple reasons.
Wearing her late mom’s dress made her wedding extra special. Her dad started crying when he saw her wearing the dress, and she even recreated one of the pictures from her mom’s wedding day.
“Not only did i marry the absolute love of my life, but i also was able to honor my late mother & poppy in the same day,” Grace wrote on Instagram.

A video shared by Maclin Photo and Film shows the moment Grace’s dad turned around to see her wedding dress. When he saw his daughter, he immediately started crying. “I love you so much. You look so gorgeous,” Grace’s dad said in the video.
“Is that mom’s dress?” he asked. When Grace nodded, her dad continued to cry before saying, “You look just like her.”
