The unidentified caller begged for help.

It’s unclear who notified 911, but the caller pleaded with the dispatcher to send help. “Please, please, please,” she said. “There is thin ice, and they’re trying to get to him. They’re trying to help.”

The woman continued, “I think they got him. It’s really cold though,” she said, per the video on Fox News. “I don’t know. He was in there for a good minute. He’s probably freezing cold.”

“I don’t think he’s okay. I’m scared. I don’t want him to die,” the caller said as she cried.

Crews desperately tried to save Ayden.

According to a news release from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, civilians and first responders worked together to try to rescue Ayden.

“Upon arrival, emergency responders located a child in the water. The child was immediately transported to a local hospital and later succumbed to injuries sustained during the incident,” the release reads.

The sheriff’s office added that the cause of death appeared to be related to a sledding accident but said it would not be releasing any more information.

Ayden's mother misses him tremendously.

Angel Sasser shared Ayden’s obituary on Facebook with the caption, “My baby.

The obituary reads in part, “Ayden was a little boy filled with an outgoing personality, spreading happiness to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His love for giving fist bumps became a signature gesture, and as he was just learning the art of shaking hands, his adorable attempts were met with delight from family and friends. He cherished the moments of laughter, often making others smile with his playful antics.”

Loved ones shared kind words on Sasser's post.

One wrote, “Read that one in tears. I’m so sorry angel, I can’t even imagine the pain. Lots and lots of love!!” Another shared, “I am so sorry Sweetie. I can not imagine what you are going through. Praying for you and your family.”

This person agreed and commented, “Holding you in constant prayers and love. My heart absolutely breaks for you.”
