People Say It’s Weird but I’m Teaching My 5 Daughters ‘There’s No Such Thing as Virginity’

Social media has given billions of people a place to speak about their passions. We can learn so much about how others live, and it's incredibly eye-opening. Some social media creators like to use their platforms to share their thoughts, even though they know it might be met with criticism. But a lot of them genuinely don't care.

One such creator, Cayce, aka @book-mama on TikTok, shared that she is raising her five daughters in a home that doesn't believe in the concept of virginity. She doesn't think women should be defined by their sexual experiences. The idea created quite a conversation.

Cayce says men created the virginity 'myth.'

According to the TikToker, virginity is a "patriarchal concept used to control women, and it serves no purpose." She explains that women are meant to feel bad about themselves when they have sex.

She asserts that just because "some guy randomly sticks his penis into you at some point in your life does not change your worth." In fact, Cayce says it doesn't do anything to you.

Although she doesn't buy into the idea of virginity, Cayce thinks sex is important.

But it isn't just about the first time you have sex. She believes all sexual encounters should be meaningful.

She thinks that the concept of virginity and the "first time" a person has sex is "ridiculous." And she doesn't want her daughters to feel weighed down by the emotional baggage of virginity.

She admits she gets some flak from others who don't necessarily agree with her.

Cayce says that other moms have questioned whether she thinks she is encouraging her daughters to be promiscuous, an idea she ultimately denies.

"No. I'm raising them to be good people and have solid foundations, and like, make their own choices," she says, noting that she's not going to let a book tell her daughters how to live.

Some people in the comments disagreed with Cayce's thoughts on virginity.

Her video has 2.7 million views and 22,000 comments, but not everyone is on board with her thinking.

One man wrote, "you're teaching them to be irresponsible."

Another believed she had her terminology wrong. "Is not patriarchy.. men lose virginity too. Why do feminists make everything about women. Feminism can be so narcissistic sometimes."

And some just didn't quite get what she was saying. "wait… i'm 47 and don't understand. Is virginity not real? Is it something we believe in like the 'tooth fairy?'"

Most of the comments, however, praised her.

A lot of women loved the mom's thinking.

" I love this. I hate that people use it to equate someone's virtue and worth. Thank you for speaking up," one comment reads.

And many parents hope to teach their children the same thing.

"I never really thought about this to be honest. Mom of two little girls. I will absolutely be adopting this!! Thank you for sharing," someone else wrote.

"Absolutely. I have 4 sons. They won't be told in order to be a man, you must partake in to some caveman ritual. I want them to have actual intimacy," another person agreed.

"I absolutely love this reframe of this ideology. I cannot wait to emulate this attitude as my children grow. Kudos!" another comment reads.
