‘Ridiculous’ Influencer Couple Faces Backlash for Sharing Wedding Registry With Their Followers

In recent years, there has been a wave of backlash against social media influencers. Many people feel that too many influencers spend time trying to exploit their followers by doing things like asking for money. The regular people who make up their follower counts usually don’t have the same kind of income, let alone much to spare.

Zack Fox, a popular guest star on the show Abbott Elementary, recently married his longtime girlfriend, Kat Matutina. The couple is now coming under fire after Kat posted the link to their wedding registry on social media. People think it’s tacky of the influencers to ask their followers to buy them wedding gifts.

People took their concerns to Reddit.

Someone posted about the wedding registry in the LA influencers Reddit forum with the title, “Influencers Asking for Money from Followers.”

“Is it not ridiculous to ask your followers to give you money for these things??? Like did anyone really even ask for this registry to be posted? Who tf is asking for this? Idk this is too much,” the OP wrote before sharing screenshots.

It looked like the couple linked their wedding registry.

In her Instagram Stories shortly after the wedding, Kat Fox shared an Instagram post from Zack Fox of pictures from their wedding.

“Since some of y’all were asking…we won’t be mad if you’re feeling generous,” Kat wrote above the picture. Under the picture was a link to the influencers’ wedding registry.

The registry items are typical for a modern couple.

The OP also shared screenshots of items the influencers included on their registry that people could contribute to, like a down payment for a house, different parts of their honeymoon, and a year’s supply of dog treats.

These days, couples often ask guests to contribute to a honeymoon or other big ticket items instead of buying an espresso machine or dinner plates. But given their status as influencers, people thought it was in poor taste.

Commenters had no trouble calling the influencers out.

“Influencers still say ‘since some of you were asking?'” one commenter pointed out. “Literally everybody knows that no one asked.”

“Very trashy to ask for gifts from people not invited to your wedding….” another person wrote.

Someone else commented, “Having more than one fund no matter who you are is SO tacky.”

People couldn't understand why they would want to ask followers for gifts.

“Honestly … this is a super weird thing to do, but actually donating to these funds is WAY weirder…” someone wrote.

“I think it’s wild they do this but humble brag daily about how much they spend/their lifestyles etc… the math is not mathing,” another person commented.

“House down payment???” another person questioned. “Get a job?!?”

Someone else pointed out, “That’s how the rich stay rich tbh but also if a grown person is paying for that they’re just as pathetic as the influencer posting it.”
