My Husband Left a Sink Full of Dishes, but It’s What He Did Next That Changed Everything

We don't know about you, but as moms we sometimes feel that if we don't do all of the things all of the time, they just don't get done. It seems we are always cleaning up after somebody else, which can obviously be exhausting. Sure, we understand that kids are messy and that comes with the territory, but it can be pretty darn maddening when we have to clean up after our spouses.

Susan, who posts on TikTok as @susandoingsusanthings, shared a quick video about her husband leaving a pile of dishes in the sink after having a few friends over. What happened next is pure marriage goals.

Susan woke up to a sink full of dishes.

@susandoingsusanthings Leaving a simple note instantly made me not care about the dishes in the sink!! I love communication and we have come so far!! #susandoingsusanthings #marriedlife #marriage #marriagehumor #marriagegoals #marriagecomedy #marriagelife ♬ original sound - SusanDoingSusanThings

She walked into her kitchen early in the morning to find the sink overflowing with a giant mess. She explains that her husband had friends over and left it all to sit overnight.

She wasn't thrilled, but what tired mom up to start her day before it's even light out would be? And just as she was ready to be pretty ticked, she found something else.

Her husband wasn't leaving it all for her.

He wrote her a note that simply said, "I got it!"

He didn't want her to think she needed to clean up after him, but he knew she would be upset when she saw all the dishes. So he did what any smart spouse should, preempting her frustration with a little acknowledgment.

"What a good guy," she says in the TikTok. "You see, the thing is, just because he left me the note makes me want to like tackle it, right?"

Like every wife and mom, she just wanted to feel seen.

And he did it. Marriage isn't easy, and living with someone and creating a routine isn't either.

Susan admits that she and her husband aren't always perfect. She gives the camera a thumbs up and a smile and says, "But anyways, we've come so far."

Many TikTokers appreciated the little note.

It was about loving communication for so many people, and ended up being a simple but powerful gesture.

"Love the communication!" one person wrote.

Plenty of others agreed.

"the note changes everything! amazing communication," someone else commented.

"communication was the result, but showing real awareness/empathy for you was the real win here, for me. That's the re-wiring dudes need! ," another person chimed in.

"The little things that matters, and that little note makes you feel appreciated and he doesn't take it for granted that you'll clean up after him ," another person praised.

But, as usual, there were naysayers, too.

Not everyone thought it was so sweet. Some thought her husband should just do it because it's his responsibility.

"I legit need to appreciate my husband more," one person commented.

Someone else agreed, commenting, "The bar isn't on the floor its in the ocean… I mean I get it but ."

Others thought it seemed a bit sexist.

"Imagine someone's husband making a congratulatory video saying his wife left a note saying she'll do the dishes when she's ready lol," one person commented.

Susan, we get it. You just wanted to feel loved and appreciated, not taken for granted. We agree, and we think your husband is pretty great. It really is the little things that make a relationship work.
