Engagement rings are special. Not only do they symbolize the commitment made between a couple, but some couples choose to incorporate significance into the ring. If a woman loses her ring, it’s devastating. One bride-to-be will have quite a story to tell about what happened to her ring during her engagement photo shoot.
During the shoot, the bride nearly lost her ring totally by accident. Luckily, she was able to get it back thanks to some firefighters. The best part is that the photographer captured the rescue, so the couple will always have a memento of the moment.

The couple had already rescheduled their engagement shoot multiple times.
Bride Niki Mack and her fiancé Corey Berebitsky, took their photos at the Italian Cultural Garden in Cleveland on November 24, 2024. Due to weather, they had rescheduled the shoot several times, and were relieved that they could finally proceed with the pictures.
Everything was going well ...
The couple’s photographer, Emily Ruth, noticed something on the back of Berebitsky’s pants, so his bride went to clean them off. And that’s when disaster struck.
“My fiancĂ©e went off to wipe off whatever was on my pants, and as she was doing so there was a ting sound and she looked down and the ring was not on her hand,” Berebitsky told People in an interview. The sound? Mack’s ring flying off her finger and landing in a nearby sewer drain.

Losing your engagement ring is every bride's worst nightmare.
“Niki was surprisingly calm,” Berebitsky said. He was not faring quite as well. “The first thing that goes through my head is, ‘Oh my God, we’ve been pushing off the ring resizing for so long, and of course this happens.'”
The reason the bride was calm was because she could see her ring in the drain. But her groom’s “heart dropped” while he wondered how in the world they were going to get the ring out.
The ring is one of a kind.
Berebitsky’s freaking out was for a good reason: The stones in Mack’s ring were irreplaceable. The couple used the diamonds from their grandmother’s rings to create a one-of-a-kind ring for the bride. If they couldn’t get it, that was it.
“You can’t get the diamonds back from family,” he said.
In the end, they have a hilarious story to tell (and show!) everyone.
Members of Cleveland Fire Station 30 came less than 10 minutes after the couple called nonemergency services. They were unsure of their ability to get the grate off in a timely manner, so instead, they used a metal rod to get the ring out. Photographer Emily Ruth captured the whole thing on camera.
“I personally could not watch as they pulled it up just for fear it was going to fall [back] down. But they were very calm and confident,” Berebitsky said. Five minutes later, Mack’s ring was out and good as new. “It was actually extremely sparkly,” he said. “It’s like the sewer water cleaned it.”
Following the shoot, the couple went and got Mack’s ring resized. Now, they’re planning of giving the firefighters a gift for saving the day.
